MAKE A HOME IN YOUR MIND
Made picture for @anysegment a magazine based out of the UK that explores and showcases different artists. The concept they asked me to explore was Home.
What do I think of when I think of home? Home is different from house.
To me home is something, some one or somewhere, that creates the opportunity for a mindset of clarity and grounding. Home is where you feel safe to expand, explore, release expectations and just exist.
Home has looked a lot of different ways to me at different times in my life but when I think of the times where I am feeling really grounded clear, relaxed and happy it feels as though my home is everything and everyone.
So in someways a house can be a home, but in someways it can also be the walls that stand in the way of the connection we require to be truly deeply at home in our world and our community.
For my piece I chose lean into the nostalgia of laying in the tall grass in the fields behind my childhood home. I would spend a lot of time just laying watching sun beams shine through the blades of grass.
As a kid there was something so special about the comfort of the proximity to the people I loved and yet a separateness and autonomy I craved. I loved the ability to vanish into the depths of the tall grass. The enjoyable contrast the soaring blades created. Cool shade, wet dirt versus the hot bright sun that aromatically warmed and brightened their tips.
Laying in the somewhat itchy uncomfortable, dirtiness of bugs, soil and whatever plants were poking into me felt some how more honest and more alive than being inside. I felt home in my own little corner of the world where I could just exist, explore my thoughts, and expand.
